「臨機応変に」
“On The Fly”には様々な意味がありますが、ここでは「臨機応変に」や「その時の考えで」など、突発的に判断する様子を指すときに使われます。

Hide: Good morning, Martin. Do you have a few minutes?
（マーティンおはよう。ちょっといいかな？）
Martin: Yeah, sure! What do you need?
（もちろん！どうしたの？）
Hide: Well, I’m putting together some training material for the new functions on our Website. Do you have any documentation in English that I can take to our client?
（サイトの新しい機能の研修資料をまとめているんだけど、クライアントにもっていくのに何か英語の資料もっていないかな？）
Martin: Umm, I haven’t received any yet, but I think it is still being translated. When do you need it?
（いやまだ何ももらっていないんだけど、まだ翻訳しているんだと思う。いつ必要なの？）
Hide: Actually, I’m visiting them this afternoon. That’s OK, I have the Japanese documents and can just provide them a verbal summary in English on the fly.
（実は今日の午後訪問なんだ。でも大丈夫。日本語の資料があるし、臨機応変に英語で口頭でまとめるから。）
Martin: That’s great! I’ll find out when the translation will be finished and get back to you ASAP.
（それはいい！いつ翻訳が終わるか確認して、すぐに知らせるよ。）
Hide: Perfect. I’ll wait to schedule any further training sessions until then. I’m sure it won’t take very long to finish.
（よかった。それまでこれ以上の研修の日取りは保留にするよ。そんなに時間がかからないだろうから。）
上記以外にも”On The Fly”には、「飛んで」や「急いで」など全く異なる意味の使い方もされるので、行間を読んで使い分けるようにしましょう。
