Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to drive the development and delivery of data and analytics platforms. The successful candidate will manage a cross-functional development team focused on data warehouses, data pipelines, data solutions, and AI-driven systems, ensuring high quality, on-time delivery and strategic technical direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the entire engineering team, including developers, project managers, and product managers, with responsibilities such as goal setting, performance evaluation, skill development, recruitment, and onboarding.

  • Take accountability for Quality, Cost, and Delivery (QCD) across assigned products and projects.

  • Define and execute technical strategies that align with product roadmaps and business goals, including planning and prioritizing development efforts.

  • Provide leadership in technology selection, architecture design, and system configuration decisions.

  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and assess feasibility with product and business stakeholders.

  • Lead improvements in development processes, quality assurance, performance, and security practices.

  • Facilitate smooth communication within the team and with stakeholders, reporting on status, risks, and performance to senior leadership.

  • Promote best practices and encourage knowledge sharing to elevate technical capabilities across the team.

Work Environment & Technologies

  • The team is responsible for supporting large-scale data platforms, data warehouses, real-time and batch data pipelines, business intelligence/data visualization solutions, and AI/ML-based analytics systems.

  • Technologies in use include cloud infrastructure (e.g., Google Cloud Platform and private cloud), BI tools (e.g., Tableau), and machine learning frameworks.

  • Collaboration across distributed offices may be required.

Required Skills

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of practical software development experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience in a people management or engineering leadership role, including managing cross-functional teams.

  • Demonstrated track record taking responsibility for delivering quality products and meeting business goals.

  • Experience in designing, developing, and operating data warehouses or data solutions.

  • Familiarity with multiple programming languages and the ability to guide technical discussions.

  • Strong communication skills with experience reporting to executives or senior management.

  • Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with architecture design, performance tuning, and improving scalability of large systems.

  • Practical experience with Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).

  • Experience building and operating systems on public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Familiarity with implementing AI/machine learning technologies within production systems.

  • Experience with DevOps practices and site reliability engineering (SRE) concepts.

  • Experience as a Scrum Master or Product Owner.
