As Japan EHS Manager you will act as EHS technical expert and advocate for continuous improvement of EHS performance; to promote a safe, productive, sustainable and environmentally sound work culture through the application of continuous improvement, best practices and personal accountability. Reporting to the Global EHS Director, you will implement our EHS Policies and Procedures at all Japan manufacturing sites including our Ichihara plant, Aichi plant and Nagareyama QH lab.

 

What will you do ?

  • Manage and Coordinate with the other members of local EHS and (FluidCare) sites.
  • Responsible for the EHS processes at all QH companies: Dipsol (Ichihara) and Sutai (Aichi) as well as oversee our QH Toll manufacturing partner and our chemical management services at our customer sites in Japan.
  • Serves as the focal point for support and implementation of the corporate EHS programs and EHS digitalization systems.
  • Provides support of appropriate medical and industrial hygiene related policies and programs.
  • Maintain the current ISO14001:2015 and support implementation of the Company’s EHS management systems (Future 2027, ISO45001).
  • Serve as a technical expert to implement the Corporate EHS eLearning system.
  • Work closely with the APAC EHS Director, Local/Regional Engineering, site operations and the external insurance firms to effectively manage loss prevention issues.
  • Coordinate with Operations/Engineering personnel work around MOC process.
  • Supervise EHS consultants and contractors hired to perform EHS services such as EHS legal compliance audit, samples collection, noise measurements, air emissions, industrial hygiene testing, fit testing, etc.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies during compliance inspections. Responds to written correspondence and inquiries from outside regulatory agencies. Coordinate with regulatory agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with EHS regulations and standards.
  • Analyze and interpret regulatory requirements, annual reporting and environmental permit conditions that apply to QH’s operations (manufacturing locations and chemical management activities) and work closely with plant management to address EHS requirements and concerns.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
  • Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to identify potential hazards, ensure compliance, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Manage EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to ensure awareness and understanding of EHS requirements and best practices.
  • Monitor and report on EHS performance, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics, to senior management.
  • Oversee the management of hazardous materials and waste, ensuring proper storage, handling, and disposal.
  • Maintain emergency response plans and procedures to effectively manage potential EHS incidents. Serve as a technical resource in the coordination of emergency preparedness on the site.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the company's EHS programs are up-to-date and effective.
  • Lead and participate in EHS committee meetings and other relevant forums.
  • Work closely on sustainability projects and update the sustainability data on a monthly base.
  • Leading the EHS integration projects, e.g. DevonWay, QH Life Saving Rules, Stop Work Authority, etc.
  • Travel about 30% mainly to the Japan QH manufacturing plants and Customer sites.

Required Skills

What are we looking for?

Experience:

  • Relevant EHS Legal qualification and compliance knowledge.
  • At least 10 years experience in the environmental, health and safety and environmental discipline with a strong focus on occupational health and safety required. At least 5 years working experience in a manufacturing environment as an EHS professional required. Preferable in the chemical industry.
  • Advance certification, additional specialized safety and environment education and/or equivalent work experience desired but not required.
  • Solid technical and regulatory expertise in relevant health and safety and environment regulatory requirements as well as knowledge of implementation experience with applicable ISO standards including but not limited to ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, Responsible Care, etc.
  • Solid technical and regulatory expertise in relevant regional and national product safety/stewardship regulatory requirements and associated management systems and programs.
  • Process risk management best practices.
  • Best practices related to unsafe conditions and at-risk behaviors.
  • Incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action management
  • Develop, organize, coordinate and perform training sessions.

Language skills: English language skills; written and spoken at professional level.

Soft skills: Strong safety-conscious, safety is at the core of our culture. Autonomous, hands-on & proactive leadership skills with great influencing and communication skills. Good practical problem solving with acute attention to detail. Strong team player, passionate about delivering success.
