The Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine (JSRM) is an academic organization founded in May 2001 with the overarching mission of "Orchestrating Wisdom to Innovate, Universalize for the Happiness and Future of All Human Beings" through the advancement and widespread adoption of regenerative medicine. Evolving from its predecessor, the Cell Therapy Research Group, JSRM achieved General Incorporated Association status in October 2012. Its activities are fundamentally aimed at promoting research and development and ensuring the safe, effective, and rapid delivery of regenerative medicine findings to society.
【Key Activities and Contributions】
Promotion of Academic Exchange and Information Dissemination: JSRM hosts the annual Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine Annual Meeting, providing a critical platform for presenting and discussing the most advanced research outcomes. The society also publishes its official English journal, Regenerative Therapy (which has a significant Impact Factor), the Japanese journal Journal of Regenerative Medicine, and a newsletter, ensuring the wide dissemination of knowledge both domestically and internationally.
Quality Assurance and Professional Training: To guarantee the quality of personnel and facilities involved in the Social Implementation of regenerative medicine, JSRM actively manages a comprehensive Certification System. This includes certifying professionals such as "Regenerative Medicine Certified Doctor," "Cell Culture Processing Facility Manager," and "Clinical Culturist," along with "Regenerative Medicine Certified Facilities." These certifications are crucial for improving the safety and efficacy of regenerative medicine in clinical practice.
Collaboration on Legal Frameworks and Public Research: The society is dedicated to establishing an optimal environment for the popularization of regenerative medicine by collaborating closely with public research bodies, including the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) and AMED (Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development). This work encompasses research related to the Act on the Safety of Regenerative Medicine and comprehensive studies addressing the Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI) of the technology.
Compensation and Support Schemes: JSRM offers a Compensation System, specifically the "Regenerative Medicine Support Insurance" (covering both private practice and clinical research), which provides a layer of security and trust for both patients and medical institutions.
JSRM places a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary collaboration, bringing together diverse stakeholders—including physicians, researchers, ethics and legal experts, government officials, and industry representatives. This process of "Orchestrating Wisdom" has cemented its position as the central academic society driving the future of regenerative medicine in Japan.
