A leading medical technology company is expanding its Research & Development (R&D) presence in Penang as part of its global innovation network is seeking an experienced Head of R&D to lead the establishment and growth of the site, driving strategic initiatives, product development excellence, and organizational capability building. The successful candidate will oversee site operations, develop high-performing teams, foster collaboration with global stakeholders, and ensure the delivery of innovative products within a regulated environment.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Penang R&D strategy aligned with global business objectives.

• Build and scale the R&D organization through recruitment, talent development, and succession planning.

• Lead product development activities while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.

• Drive collaboration across global teams to align priorities, resources, and project execution.

• Oversee site operations, laboratory facilities, infrastructure planning, and EHS compliance.

• Manage budgets and resources to support growth and operational excellence.

• Build partnerships with universities, research institutions, and industry stakeholders.

• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

• Master's Degree or PhD in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.

• Minimum 12 years of R&D experience within Medical Devices, IVD, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, or other regulated industries.

• At least 5 years of leadership experience managing managers, leaders, or large technical teams.

• Proven experience establishing, scaling, or transforming R&D or engineering organizations.

• Strong expertise in product development, verification & validation, quality systems, and ISO 13485.
  Experience leading complex cross-functional programs within a global environment.

• Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
