Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Origination & Feasibility Studies

  • Identify and evaluate viable project sites based on technical, regulatory, and commercial criteria
  • Lead land acquisition/leasing negotiations and oversee early-stage feasibility and due diligence

2. Permitting & Regulatory Compliance

  • Manage the full permitting process and ensure compliance with local regulations
  • Secure key approvals, including environmental, fire safety, and construction permits

3. Stakeholder Management

  • Build and manage relationships with utilities, authorities, landowners, and other stakeholders
  • Act as the main point of contact for external parties throughout project development

4. Commercial & Financial Management

  • Manage development budgets, schedules, and milestones up to RTB stage
  • Support financing processes by preparing due diligence materials

5. Internal Coordination

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, finance, legal, procurement)
  • Ensure project alignment and optimize technical and commercial outcomes

Required Skills

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of project development experience in Japan’s energy sector, with a proven track record of successfully taking power generation, battery storage, or solar projects from concept to financing.
  • Deep knowledge of Japan’s power grid, market rules (JEPX, capacity market), and renewable energy policies (including METI guidelines).
  • Strong familiarity with Japan’s permitting and regulatory environment for energy infrastructure projects.
  • Native proficiency in Japanese is required for daily work and business-level English is a plus
  • Established strong network with Japanese utilities and local municipalities.
