A leading global financial institution is seeking a Senior SRE / Platform Engineering Lead to drive the evolution of its enterprise-wide Observability platform.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a software development background (Java/Python) who has progressed into SRE, Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Observability Engineering and is looking to take ownership of a strategic platform used across a large-scale global enterprise.
As the Observability Lead Engineer, you will lead a Tokyo-based team while working closely with a global organization of engineers and SREs to design, build, and scale modern observability capabilities. You will be responsible for driving best practices across monitoring, metrics, logs, and tracing, while promoting adoption of technologies such as Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Loki, Mimir, and Tempo.
Beyond technical leadership, this role requires the ability to influence stakeholders, drive organizational change, and establish observability standards across multiple business units. You will play a key role in the company's IT transformation journey and help shape the future of AI Ops through initiatives such as automated anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and machine-learning-driven operational insights.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and mentor a team of engineers responsible for the enterprise observability platform
• Design, build, and enhance observability solutions and standards across the organization

- +10 years overall experience including background in application development. (Not infrastructure background).
- Team lead experience (7+ Years)
- Java, Python and Scripting Experience (5+ years)
- Intermediate knowledge of Linux
- Experience of the Observability principles and the Grafana toolset
- Agile experience with use of JIRAs and sprints
- Strong communication - presenting and documentation
- Experience of driving change in a large organization
- Demonstrate understanding of large enterprise systems & technologies on which they are built
- Solid understanding of Production Support processes
- In-depth understanding of Java and Python
