Company Overview
Our client is a prominent joint venture between a major Chinese manufacturer and a leading Japanese shipping line, specializing in international dry bulk shipping. Focused on the stable and efficient transportation of raw materials, they utilize a dedicated fleet of Capesize vessels. As they continue to drive growth and expansion, they are seeking an experienced Mariner to join their team and contribute to their ongoing success.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Marine Operations & Safety: Establish and maintain safety/security policies. Supervise Ship Managers’ (SM) HSEQ policies, lead safety familiarization, and act as the technical lead during crisis management. You will assess port/route safety, analyze maritime casualty risks/insurance claims, and monitor vessel certification.

  • Maintenance & Technical Oversight: Monitor the SM’s maintenance policies and procurement strategies. oversee hull and machinery conditions, analyze fuel consumption for navigation optimization, and review/approve annual vessel budgets and expenditures.

  • Commercial & Strategic Support: Assist in feasibility studies for new tonnage investments. Oversee the supervision of new builds (including sea trials) and manage the handover processes for second-hand vessel purchases.

  • Stakeholder Management: Liaise effectively with ship managers, internal departments, and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and smooth transaction coordination.

 

Key Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in international dry bulk shipping. You must have prior experience in at least one of the following capacities:

    • Master or Chief Engineer of Capesize bulkers.

    • Vessel Manager for Capesize bulkers within a ship management company.

    • Technical Representative for owners/charterers operating Capesize bulkers.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong experience and proficient knowledge in fleet safety management is essential.

  • Skills: Excellent technical, analytical, negotiation, and presentation skills. High proficiency in computer literacy (spreadsheets, databases, presentation software).

  • Language: Good verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Proficiency in Chinese and/or Japanese is highly advantageous to communicate effectively with counterpart companies and headquarters in the region.

  • Attributes: A resilient team player with a positive attitude, cultural agility, and a transparent working manner. You must be willing to take ownership and be hands-on. Punctuality and good attendance are mandatory.

  • Travel: Ability to travel globally as required.
