Job Description

A global and one of the world’s largest Insurance Service provider is looking for a highly technical Senior Database Engineer specializing in Azure SQL or Microsoft SQL Server platforms to design, operate, and optimize enterprise-grade database infrastructure.
This role requires deep expertise in cloud database architecture, performance engineering, and high-availability design in regulated environments. The engineer will work at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, and application architecture.

Responsibilities:
- Architect and administer Azure SQL Database / Managed Instance / SQL Server environments in production-scale systems
- Design high-availability and disaster recovery architectures (Failover Groups, Geo-replication, Always On, backup strategies)
- Perform advanced query tuning, index optimization, and workload performance engineering
- Lead database migration and modernization from on-prem MS SQL to Azure PaaS
- Implement database automation using ARM templates, PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Terraform
- Build monitoring and observability frameworks using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and performance baselines
- Support CI/CD pipelines for database deployments (schema versioning, release automation)
- Enforce database security standards (RBAC, encryption, auditing, vulnerability assessments)
- Collaborate with DevOps and cloud engineering teams to optimize infrastructure design
- Troubleshoot critical production incidents and perform deep root cause analysis
- Develop operational runbooks and technical architecture documentation
