Job Description

About the Role

TransPak Japan is a newly established organization, and we are building our local engineering team from the ground up.

We are looking for a Packaging Design Engineer who is passionate about designing packaging solutions that truly protect customers’ products — from precision equipment to large-scale machinery — throughout global transportation.

This role goes beyond desk-based design work. You will be involved in the entire process, including customer discussions, onsite measurements, design, prototyping, and validation.
As an early member of TransPak Japan, you will also have the opportunity to help shape how packaging engineering is done locally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop customized packaging solutions based on customer requirements and industry standards(including crates, wooden packaging, cushioning structures, and special packaging)
  • Create 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks
  • Prepare and update packaging specifications, including materials, dimensions, and tolerances
  • Review and improve existing designs with a focus on cost efficiency, manufacturability, and safety
  • Visit customer sites for meetings, onsite inspections, and product measurements
  • Collaborate closely with internal engineering and manufacturing teams through design reviews
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM)
  • Support prototype fabrication and participate in packaging tests and validation activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation of design decisions, test results, and engineering changes

The scope of responsibility will expand based on experience and skill level.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • End-to-end involvement:From concept design to onsite verification and testing — not just drawing creation
  • Highly customized work:Most projects are made-to-order, offering new challenges with each design
  • Direct customer interaction:See firsthand how your designs impact real-world logistics and customer satisfaction
  • Global exposure:Opportunities to work on international shipments and global packaging standards
  • Startup environment with global backing:Build local engineering practices while leveraging TransPak’s global expertise

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Enjoys hands-on engineering and seeing designs come to life in the field
  • Takes ownership and proactively proposes improvements
  • Comfortable working in a startup or growing organization
  • Curious, adaptable, and eager to continuously develop engineering skills
  • Values teamwork while being accountable for individual contributions
