Position Summary:
The Manager, Strategic Communication (Scientific Research) will have very strong understanding and demonstrable success in working with researchers, international scientific audiences, and the science media in both Japan and overseas. They will have primary responsibility for delivering a compelling portfolio of broad coverage across all channels, inspiring sustained excellence in Communication and Public Relations Division’s scientific storytelling and research promotion. They will work supportively and creatively with OIST Faculty across all fields, research units, and open centers; and they will oversee our in-house science writers to ensure that a breadth of OIST research is conveyed with credibility, impact, and extended reach. Capable of serving highly expert audiences as well as the wide general public, they will develop existing channels and lead fresh innovation in story placement, including the development of interdisciplinary campaigns. The successful candidate will possess exceptional writing skills in English. Japanese is advantageous, not essential. They will, however, possess the skill and confidence to build strong media and scientific press networks within Japan, adding national connections to existing global contacts. The Senior Manager, Strategic Communication (Scientific Research) will report directly to the Vice President for Communication and Public Relations (VPCPR). They will work closely with the Managers for Media Relations, Internal Communications and Events, and Digital Communication Brand and Design. They will oversee OIST’s external and internal scientific content and communication, directly supporting our young institution’s future goals and growth.
