OVERVIEW OF POSITION

TUJ is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Part-Time Publication Assistant to join our Communications and Marketing Support Department. This position will support variety of university publications and content, including brochures, flyers and digital content. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Content, the Publication Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity and consistency of content across various communication channels.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation:

  • Collaborate with writers, designers, and other internal / external members to refine content and ensure messaging is effective and impactful.
  • Ensure content adheres to brand guidelines, style guides, and best practices in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Publication Coordination

  • Assist in the development of content strategies and editorial plans to support university initiatives and marketing campaigns.
  • Liaise with printers, designers and other vendors to coordinate production logistics.
  • Assist in the review of proofs and facilitate the approval process of publication tasks.

Quality Assurance

  • Conduct thorough quality checks to verify factual accuracy, consistency and adherence to university standards.
  • Maintain high standards of quality and ensure all content meets deadlines and objectives.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather information, provide editorial support and ensure alignment with communication goals.
  • Communicate effectively to understand project requirements, provide feedback and address concerns.

Design and Layout Assistance

  • Collaborate with graphic designers to develop layouts and design concepts for publications and digital content.
  • Assist in selection and preparation of images and graphic for publication and digital content.

Required Skills

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Native Japanese speaker with business-level proficiency in English (TOEIC L&R above 800)
  • Experience (2 years or more) in bilingual editing, copywriting, graphic design, or content creation, preferably in a marketing setting
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading skills in both Japanese and English, with a strong command of grammar, syntax, and style in both languages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and content management systems (CMS)
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize assignments and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
  • Detail-oriented with a critical eye for accuracy and consistency in bilingual content and graphics
  • Experience with fact-checking and a strong attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), with a particular focus on Adobe Illustrator
