「否認する」
“shoot down”は直訳すると、「撃ち落とす」ですが、
敵を負かす意味から派生して、何かを「否認する、拒否する」という意味で使われています。

Sonoko: Hey Martin, I saw your latest expense report and I think we have a problem.
（ねえマーティン、あなたの最新の経費報告書をみたんだけど、まずいと思うの。）
Martin: Really? I didn’t think there were any unusual purchases last month.
（本当？先月は目立って何か購入していなかったと思うけど。）
Sonoko: Well, it looks like your dinner and drinks receipt from the karaoke box was shot down by upper management.
（上層部から、カラオケの飲食費の領収書が否認されたみたい。）
Martin: What!! I was with a major client that evening, and they actually signed a large contract with us last week. What can I do to push this through?
（えっ！！その夜は大手クライアントと一緒で、先週大口の契約をしてくれたんだ。これを押し通すにはどうすればいいんだろう？）
Sonoko: Ok, understood. Don’t throw in the towel yet, and try to re-submit it with an explanation. If you get rejected again, we’ll schedule a meeting with the Finance Director.
（わかったわ。まだあきらめないで、説明と一緒に再度提出してみて。それでまた否認されたら、財務部長とミーティングしましょう。）
Martin: Thanks Sonoko, that’s good advice!
