Legal Counsel - Global Entertainment Brand

Become the trusted legal partner and leader, for our Japan business. In this high-impact role, you'll work closely with senior business leaders and regional legal colleagues to provide strategic, commercially-focused legal advice that enables growth while managing risk.

Reporting to the APAC Legal Counsel, you'll enjoy a broad, hands-on role with significant autonomy, making this an outstanding opportunity for an experienced commercial lawyer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Your main responsibilities are as follows:

• Act as the trusted legal advisor to the Japan business, providing practical, commercially focused legal guidance
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements while proactively managing legal risk
• Partner with regional and global legal teams to support compliance, privacy, regulatory, and corporate governance matters
• Improve legal processes, contract management, and training to enable the business to operate efficiently and compliantly
• Manage external counsel and legal budgets while delivering cost-effective in-house legal support
• Support key commercial and strategic projects, providing pragmatic legal solutions that help drive business success

The successful candidate will have:

• Qualified lawyer in Japan or overseas, with around 5+ years of post-qualification experience
• Strong expertise in commercial law, including contract negotiation, compliance, and competition law. Experience in media, marketing or other fast-paced, consumer-facing industries is advantageous
• Experience working in-house or advising multinational businesses is highly desirable
• Professional fluency in both Japanese and English, with the ability to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholders
• A proactive, commercially minded approach, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver practical legal solutions in a dynamic environment
• Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills, together with strong attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office
