Senior Counsel - Tier 1 Global Consulting

This is an exciting opportunity to Join an international legal team supporting business operations across Asia, with a focus on Japan. You will be working in a dynamic, tech-led environment, alongside with legal and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Advise internal stakeholders on a broad range of commercial and client-related legal matters
• Support complex arrangements including technology projects, performance-based contracts and M&A-related activities
• Provide guidance on legal, compliance and risk-management issues in collaboration with senior legal colleagues
• Partner with legal, consulting, risk, compliance, finance, tax and other internal teams across Asia
• Advise product and technology teams on legal risks relating to technology development and AI deployment
• Provide commercially focused advice while supporting effective risk management and operational efficiency
• Work across multiple jurisdictions and manage matters independently in a fast-paced international environment
• Work with colleagues in other offices and travel when required

The main requirements for this role are:

• Qualified lawyer in Japan, the US, UK, Australia, or another relevant jurisdiction
• Approximately 5+ years’ experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment, with a focus on commercial contracts, technology, data, IP, or related matters
• Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including technology, services, consulting, confidentiality and M&A-related contracts
• Good understanding of technology, cloud services, data and emerging areas such as AI and machine learning; experience with privacy or cybersecurity is advantageous
• Able to provide practical, commercially focused advice and work independently on complex or developing legal issues
• Strong analytical, organizational and contract-management skills, with an interest in improving processes and operational efficiency
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English
