A global leader in advanced interconnect and electronic solutions is seeking a Senior Tooling Design Engineer to join its engineering team in Penang. The organization supports some of the world's leading technology companies through innovative manufacturing, precision engineering, and high-volume production capabilities. As part of its continued growth, the company is looking for a tooling professional with expertise in high-speed stamping and progressive die design to support new product development, tooling innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop new stamping tools, including tool layouts, detailed drawings, and tooling documentation.
Prepare and review material specifications, tooling information, design checklists, and DFMEA documentation.
Participate in tool assembly, qualification, debugging, and buy-off activities to ensure tooling performance meets requirements.
Collaborate with Die Maintenance and manufacturing teams on tooling modifications, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects.
Coordinate the procurement of tooling standard parts and monitor deliveries to ensure project schedules are met.
Work closely with external vendors to resolve fabrication quality and delivery issues.
Review First Article Inspection (FAI) and Failure Analysis (FA) reports, and follow up on corrective actions and sample submissions.
Support tooling transfer projects and ensure successful implementation into production.
Review and approve tooling details, material specifications, and reeling directions.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
Tool & Die Making Certification, Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in the high-speed stamping industry.
Proven experience in tool design, progressive die design, or tool making.
Strong knowledge of press tool and progressive die design.
Proficient in AutoCAD.
Experience conducting DFMEA analysis.
Good understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
Familiarity with mechanical assembly processes and quality inspection methodologies.
Knowledge of tooling fabrication, assembly, debugging, and validation processes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and precision.
Able to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong communication and project coordination skills.
