Job Description

In this role, you will be responsible for defining and executing the quality strategy across our digital platforms, ensuring reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. You will oversee automation coverage for backend services, APIs, and customer-facing applications while supporting multiple transformation initiatives, including identity integrations, payment systems, event and guest platforms, and access control integrations.

This is a unique opportunity to shape a mature automation strategy and build a strong quality culture within a fast-evolving engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quality Engineers.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support career development planning.
  • Establish team goals and define the technical direction of the Quality Engineering function.

Quality Strategy & Execution

  • Own and execute the overall Quality Engineering roadmap and quality strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement of testing processes and quality practices across multiple feature teams.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and technical leaders to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.

Test Automation & Engineering Excellence

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of automated test suites, including:
    • API testing
    • Integration testing
    • UI testing
  • Ensure successful integration of automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Establish and maintain scalable quality standards, testing frameworks, and quality gates.
  • Lead release validation and production verification processes.

Metrics & Process Improvement

  • Define and manage quality metrics and reporting.
  • Provide visibility into product quality, technical debt, and automation effectiveness.
  • Contribute to testing standards, documentation, and engineering best practices.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies and planning discussions.

 

General Requirements

Minimum Experience Level Over 6 years
Career Level Mid Career
Minimum English Level Business Level (Amount Used: English usage about 50%)
Minimum Japanese Level Daily Conversation
Minimum Education Level Technical/Vocational College
Visa Status Permission to work in Japan required

Required Skills

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in Software Testing or Quality Engineering.
  • 2+ years of formal people management or team leadership experience.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Extensive experience with test automation frameworks.
  • Strong experience testing RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated quality gates.
  • Ability to design structured, scalable, and maintainable test cases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Business-level in English and conversational Japanese such as JLPT N3 at minimum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with frontend automation testing tools.
  • Experience testing payment or financial systems.
  • Knowledge of Laravel-based applications.
  • Experience with Flutter applications, Web, iOS, and Android platforms.
  • Performance and load testing experience.
  • Knowledge of contract testing strategies.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools for test case generation, coverage analysis, or quality engineering workflows.
