Roles and responsibilities: -
Designing Mechanical Systems: Creating designs for machines, tools, and mechanical devices. This SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA.
Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) can also be beneficial to simulate the behaviour of the design under load.
Prototyping and Testing: Developing prototypes of their designs and conducting tests to ensure they meet required standards and specifications.
Material Selection: Choosing appropriate materials for parts based on strength, durability, weight, and cost, and ensuring compatibility with other components.
Problem-Solving: Addressing challenges related to design constraints, cost reduction, or performance optimization.
Collaboration: Working closely with other engineers (electrical, civil, etc.), manufacturers, and clients to ensure that designs are feasible and meet the end-user's requirements.
Manufacturing Support: Ensuring that designs can be efficiently manufactured. This might involve working with manufacturing engineers to optimize production processes and reduce costs.
involves drafting blueprints and 3D models using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software like
Drilling Jigs: Used to guide drills and ensure correct placement of holes in workpieces.
Welding Fixtures: Hold components in place while they are welded to maintain alignment and avoid distortion.
Assembly Fixtures: Used to hold parts during assembly processes, ensuring the proper alignment of components.
Inspection Fixtures: Used in quality control to verify the dimensions and alignment of manufactured parts.
Ergonomics and Ease of Use: Ensure that the jigs and fixtures are user-friendly and easy to set up, operate, and maintain, without introducing any operational difficulties.
Review assembly drawings (accuracy and dimensions, Issue technical instructions to subcontractors, identify issues and propose improvements).
