WOLIN SHINWA COOPERAGE CO., LTD. is a cooperage company established in April 2025 as a joint venture between WOLIN COOPERAGE, a major cooperage manufacturer based in Shandong Province, China, and Shinwa Foods Chemical Co., Ltd., a Japanese company with an established network within the domestic alcoholic beverage industry. The company provides a wide range of barrel-related services to distilleries, breweries, wineries, and other alcoholic beverage producers in Japan, including the manufacture and sale of wooden barrels used for the aging and maturation of whisky and other alcoholic beverages, as well as the repair, refurbishment, and maintenance of used barrels.
One of the company's particular areas of focus is the manufacture and sale of barrels made from Mizunara (Japanese Oak), a tree species native to Japan. Mizunara barrels have attracted worldwide attention for their ability to impart distinctive aromas and flavors during the aging of whisky and other spirits. The company manufactures Mizunara barrels in Japan as "Made in Japan" products and also exports them to overseas markets.
In addition to manufacturing and selling new barrels, the company provides repair and refurbishment services for barrels that have already been used by alcoholic beverage producers. These services include leakage repair, re-charring (reheating and re-burning of the interior of barrels), replacement of staves and barrel heads, and exterior repairs and refurbishment. The company also provides regular inspections, cleaning, microbial control, and consultation regarding aging environments. Through these services, the company supports its customers in extending the service life of wooden barrels while maintaining and enhancing the quality of alcoholic beverages aged in them.
