Overview

Our client is seeking a Scientific Innovation Partnering Director for their Japan operations, a global pharmaceutical company expanding its oncology and neuroscience pipeline. This newly created role offers the unique opportunity to lead external innovation and partnering efforts within Japan's life-sciences ecosystem, with potential regional scope expansion. The position includes competitive compensation, frequent domestic and international travel, and a full-time role based in Tokyo.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute Japan external innovation and partnering strategy
• Identify and qualify therapeutic assets and platform technologies
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with key ecosystem stakeholders
• Introduce qualified opportunities into global evaluation and screening processes
• Provide Japan-specific insights to global BD and therapeutic evaluation forums
• Support partner meetings and maintain continuity between local and global teams
• Monitor emerging technologies and innovation trends in Japan
• Coordinate cross-functionally with R&D, clinical, regulatory, medical, and commercial teams
• Represent company at scientific and partnering events in Japan
• Manage opportunity funnel and track progress against annual objectives
• Lead Japan ecosystem mapping including academia, biotechs, and investors
• Act as liaison between Japan operations and global headquarters for BD activities

Requirements:

• Advanced degree in life sciences, medicine, or related field
• 12+ years in pharmaceutical R&D, biotech, or life-sciences BD
• Experience assessing external scientific opportunities for partnering
• Involvement in due diligence, licensing, or option-based deals
• Working knowledge of drug discovery and development processes
• Existing network in Japanese life-sciences ecosystem
• Experience working with Japanese and global decision-making processes
• Japanese language native proficiency
• Basic conversational English skills
• Proficiency with scientific and business evaluation tools (e.g., due diligence software) is preferred but not mandatory
• Experience using CRM or pipeline management software is preferred but not mandatory
• Ability to represent company at scientific and partnering forums
• Strong skills in cross-functional collaboration within matrix organizations
• Experience managing frequent domestic and international business travel

応募資格：

• 生命科学、医学、または関連分野の高度な学位
• 製薬の研究開発、バイオテクノロジー、またはライフサイエンスのBDで12年以上の経験
• 外部の科学的機会の評価およびパートナーシップ経験
• デューデリジェンス、ライセンス契約、またはオプションベースの取引への関与経験
• 創薬および開発プロセスの実務知識
• 日本のライフサイエンスエコシステムにおける既存のネットワーク
• 日本およびグローバルの意思決定プロセスでの経験
• 日本語ネイティブレベルの能力
• 基本的な英会話スキル
• 科学的およびビジネス評価ツール（例：デューデリジェンスソフトウェア）の使用経験があれば望ましいが必須ではない
• CRMまたはパイプライン管理ソフトウェアの使用経験があれば望ましいが必須ではない
• 科学およびパートナーシップフォーラムでの会社代表能力
