Legal Counsel - Market-leading Manufacturer

This position includes a diverse range of legal responsibilities, with a primary focus on domestic and cross-border commercial agreements. The role offers flexible working arrangements, including remote work options and a flex-time schedule.

You will gain broad exposure to legal matters spanning the entire product and service lifecycle within a global manufacturing environment, while working directly alongside senior leadership and contributing to strategic business decisions. The compliance function is set to grow in scope, with increasing emphasis on international data privacy and sustainability-related regulation.

Key Responsibilities

• Contract drafting & review - Prepare and assess a variety of commercial agreements, including NDAs, service contracts, sales agreements, licensing arrangements, and ODM/OEM contracts (approximately 70% Japanese / 30% English)
• In-house legal advisory - Provide guidance on matters such as new business risk, intellectual property, data privacy, and regulatory developments
• Compliance monitoring - Track and respond to evolving domestic and international regulations, with a focus on data protection and ESG frameworks
• M&A support - Assist with merger and acquisition activity as required
• External counsel management - Liaise and coordinate with legal advisors in Japan and internationally
• Contract lifecycle management - Oversee and maintain the organization's contract management processes
• Legal training - Design and deliver internal training programs to build legal awareness across the business
• Global collaboration - Work closely with offices in Europe and the United States

The successful candidate will have:

Required Experience

• Proven track record in both domestic and cross-border contract work
• Demonstrated ability to handle internal legal queries and provide practical, business-focused advice
• Solid grounding in core legal principles and practices

Advantageous Experience

• Background in designing or delivering legal education and awareness programs
• Exposure to dispute resolution or litigation support
• Involvement in M&A transactions
• Experience coordinating with and managing outside counsel
