Principal Legal Counsel – Japan

Company Overview

A U.S.-listed, globally expanding technology and digital commerce platform is seeking a senior legal leader to support and scale its Japan business.

The company operates a vertically integrated model combining technology, logistics infrastructure, marketplace operations, and on-demand services. It has established a dominant position in its home market and is rapidly expanding its international footprint.

Japan represents a strategic growth market, with operations currently focused on on-demand consumer services in select urban areas and strong long-term expansion plans.

Position Overview

The Principal Legal Counsel will act as the senior legal lead for Japan, partnering closely with local and global leadership to support business growth in a fast-moving, technology-driven environment.

This is a high-impact, business-facing role requiring commercial judgment, regulatory expertise, and the ability to operate autonomously in a scaling organization.

Required

• Qualified Bengoshi in Japan (MUST)
• 8+ years of post-qualification experience
• Native-level Japanese language proficiency
• Strong commercial judgment and ability to balance growth with risk
• Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, international environment
• Highly adaptable and solution-oriented

Preferred

• Prior in-house experience (law firm background also welcome)
• Business-level English proficiency
