English Speaking Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

About the Role

You will join an existing SRE / DevOps team that has significant autonomy in deciding how to manage and improve its systems. You will work on infrastructure, observability, automation, and developer enablement, collaborating with engineers across the organization. Communication takes place in both English and Japanese, with tools used where possible to make collaboration more efficient.

The role draws on principles similar to those described in Google’s Site Reliability Engineering practices, with an emphasis on reliable production systems, automation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, maintain, and improve cloud infrastructure, particularly on AWS.
• Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code solutions, primarily using Pulumi and TypeScript.
• Operate and improve observability, monitoring, alerting, and incident investigation workflows using Datadog.
• Support container-based environments and delivery pipelines, including ECS / Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Automate operational tasks and help product engineering teams use infrastructure safely and effectively.
• Improve system reliability, availability, performance, and operational efficiency.
• Participate in the on-call rotation, approximately one week in every six weeks.

Required Qualifications

• A strong, senior-level understanding of cloud platforms, especially AWS.
• Production experience with observability or monitoring platforms; Datadog experience is particularly relevant.
• Experience maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code solutions in multi-cloud production environments, using tools such as Pulumi, Terraform, or CloudFormation.
• Experience with container-based environments, such as Kubernetes or ECS, and CI/CD tools, such as GitHub Actions or Argo CD.
• Programming experience in a statically typed language; TypeScript is preferred.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, approximately one week in every six weeks.
• Conversational Japanese, or a genuine willingness to learn Japanese. Support will be provided.
• Currently based in Japan or willing to relocate to Japan. Relocation support is available.

Nice to Have

• Experience maintaining and tuning PostgreSQL (including Aurora PostgreSQL) or MongoDB (including MongoDB Atlas).
• Experience maintaining and tuning Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
