Diagnostic Engineer

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-vehicle verification and validation (V&V) of software features before market release.
  • Prepare, execute, and document vehicle test activities according to validation plans.
  • Monitor vehicle behavior during testing and identify software, communication, and system-related issues.
  • Analyze diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), perform root cause investigation, and troubleshoot issues directly on the vehicle.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret vehicle logs and diagnostic data.
  • Create detailed defect reports and upload findings, logs, and test evidence to project tracking systems
  • Collaborate with software, systems, and hardware engineering teams to support issue resolution and validation activities.
  • Verify corrective actions and perform regression testing to ensure issue closure.
  • Support validation activities related to ADAS, powertrain, engine control, and other vehicle electronic functions.
  • Ensure compliance with project schedules, quality standards, and release requirements.

Required Skills

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in vehicle testing, validation, or in-vehicle troubleshooting within the automotive industry.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle functions and automotive Electrical & Electronic (E&E) architecture.
  • Proven experience analysing and troubleshooting Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  • Deep knowledge of automotive communication protocols, including: CAN (Controller Area Network), UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services)
  • Experience using diagnostic and logging tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, Vector tools, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with defect tracking and test reporting processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a systematic troubleshooting approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Business level English and conversational Japanese (N4+)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ADAS validation and diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of engine control systems, powertrain electronics, and vehicle network architectures.
  • Understanding of automotive software development and validation processes.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional and multicultural engineering environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex vehicle-level issues and drive resolution with development teams.
