Server Engineer - Red Hat Enterprise Linux & Windows Server

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on System Administrator / Server Engineer to provide ongoing operational and project support for our Tokyo-based environment. This is a long-term, stable engagement rather than a one-off project.

The ideal candidate thrives in a compact environment, works independently, and is comfortable balancing daily operations with ongoing technical projects. You will act as the primary local technical resource, collaborating closely with our global teams.

Key Details

• Location: Tokyo-based (On-site/Hybrid as required by local needs)
• Work Pattern: Standard business hours (09:00 – 18:00)

Scope of Work

1. Operations & Administration

• Patch Management: Execute monthly patching for Windows and Linux environments (focusing on ~6 key servers).
• System Administration: Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot ~20 servers and ~20 endpoints.
• User Support: Provide basic desktop and user support as needed.
• Issue Resolution: Investigate application-level issues and perform server/application troubleshooting.
• Site Support: Handle minor administrative and physical datacenter tasks.
• Global Collaboration: Coordinate effectively with overseas global teams.

2. Project Work & Evolution

• System Updates: Implement configuration changes, execute testing, and deploy system updates.
• Migration Support: Assist with the migration to a new backend processing tool (including configuration, testing, and vendor/team coordination).
• Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of the infrastructure, processes, and configuration changes.

3. Automation

• Develop and maintain basic scripts to automate routine tasks (Python is highly preferred; Bash or PowerShell is acceptable). Environment & Technology Stack
• Infrastructure Size: ~20 servers / ~20 endpoints
• Operating Systems: ~65% RHEL Linux, ~35% Windows Server
• Virtualization: VMware (User-level familiarity is sufficient)

Technical Skills & Experience

• OS Administration: Strong, proven experience administering both RHEL Linux and Windows Server.
• Scripting: Practical, hands-on scripting capability (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
• Virtualization: Basic operational familiarity with VMware.

Soft Skills & Language

• Language: English (Fluent/Business level) is required for global team coordination. Japanese language skills are optional but welcome.
• Autonomy: Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a small local environment. Versatility: Comfortable wearing multiple hats, shifting easily between routine operations and project execution.
• Communication: Solid coordination skills and a disciplined approach to documentation.
