Objectives of the Position

  • Lead and coordinate Sales and Operation and supply chain planning activities of the related business unit(s)
  • Manage purchase/production/transfer orders and ensure optimized inventory, considering cost/service/efficiency
  • Monitor/analyze SCM KPIs with transparency and initiate improvement activities
  • Initiate actions that directly contribute to achieving sales, profit, and growth targets by offering services that meet them which are in line with regional, country, and business unit(s) strategies.
  • Contribute/Manage SCM related and integration projects
  • Show leadership in operation to team members and SCM community

Main Tasks
Strategy – TImplement and support Japan material management strategy with responsible business unit(s). Ensures strategy can provide efficient, agile and reliable material management services that are aligned with business unit(s) strategies as well as BASF’s regional and local strategies.

Lead/Coordinate/Support S&OP and Planning

  • Sales and Operations Planning – Lead/coordinate and supports the Sales and Operations Planning process, which is led jointly business units and material managements by ensuring global S&OP process guidelines are followed.  Directs the implementation of improved tools/technologies to facilitate overall S&OP process.  Ensures S&OP process adequately covers supply/demand balancing by reviewing third party, intercompany, and intra-company sales relationships.
  • Demand Planning – Ensures global demand planning process, calendar, and cycle are adhered to within BASF Japan.  Supports business units by setting of targets and objectives in the area of forecast accuracy reporting and ABCxyz analysis or others.
  • Master Scheduling – Accountable for the output of the Master Schedule – ensuring it meets all commercial and manufacturing requirements for domestically produced materials, including tollers.  Also it is a key stakeholder in risk management planning/activities.
  • Supply Planning – Responsible for availability of merchandise materials based on the demand forecast and through the utilization of materials requirements planning.  Directs the DRP (Distribution Requirements Planning) process that entails establishing target product inventory levels needed at each distribution point based on the demand plan and/or targeted inventory levels.
  • Distribution Requirements Planning – plan requirement planning at warehouses and manage stock transfer.

Execute Purchase/Production/Transfer order activities

  • Manage purchase (include tolling)/production orders and ensure sufficient goods with optimized inventory level, include handling import customs clearance
  • Monitor order status of purchase (include tolling)/production orders in order to ensure material delivered on time
  • Manage exceptional incident handling of the orders.
  • Maintain relevant master data for the orders and other MM related.
  • Communicate and corroborate with vendors/supplier to improve supply reliability and SCM flexibility/agility
  • Manage NCM in case of damaged purchased goods

Key Performance Indicators 

  • Monitor core KPIs and identify potential improvements
  • Steering actions for improving performance within related business unit(s).

Leadership and Expertize – Display leadership in operation partially and support/guide team members actively

Process Improvement – Identify and implement improvements in related process areas and share best practices within own team

Monitoring Logistics Service Providers Services – Responsible for monitoring appropriate LSP services, include compliance, on time delivery to meet business requirement

Training and development – Actively participate any relevant trainings, including CPIM

Projects – Implement mid to small size project with defined/agreed schedule and contribute budget control for material management related projects within responsible business unit(s) as a project member

Integration – Manage related material management activities, including best practice sharing, process set up and system migration.  Periodic review of process to identify improvement opportunities


- Education: Bachelor's Degrees in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.  Certification in BSCM and MPR of CPIM is highly recommended.  Ability to speak  Japanese and English as business level are required.

- Working Experience: Four (4) years in supply chain, especially planning area.

- Working knowledge of SAP R/3, APO, MRP, and MS Office / Powerpoint are also required.

- Technical & Professional Knowledge: Developed in project management with an ability to effectively negotiate with commercial, functional unit, and executive management team members on a regional and global level. Thorough knowledge of demand and supply planning, sales and operations planning, material requirements planning, inventory control theory and practice, transportation, distribution, and 3rd party logistics strategy are preferable.

- Strong data analysis skills/experience are preferred
