RESPONSIBILITIES

SMG is seeking a top-performing Business Development Manager to play an integral part in the ongoing evolution of the company’s success. S/he should possess a proven track record of securing meetings with senior Directors (i.e., decision makers) in the Restaurant industry.  

S/he will be accountable for proactively developing, implementing, and directing business development activities that will meet sales objectives as part of the overall growth strategy of the company.  As such, Business Development Manager will be expected to:

  • Develop and actively pursue a list of targeted key accounts and create individual action plans to penetrate these accounts;
  • Establish personal relationships with key account contacts and decision makers therein;
  • Provide market feedback and recommend enhancements necessary to round out service lines;
  • Work effectively with an intellectually savvy team of service delivery professionals;
  • Build relationships across the organization and strategically leverage those resources to help secure new business;
  • Collaborate with the implementation and account management teams to ensure complete customer satisfaction; and
  • Function as a resource for clients to assist with all aspects of their buying experience in a seamless and timely manner.

To accomplish these expectations, the successful candidate will continuously demonstrate knowledge and understanding of buyer habits and market trends while concurrently assessing marketplace developments of competitors.

EdUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of B2B sales experience will be critical for success.
  • A proven producer that reports at least two years as a top sales performer compared to peers.
  • Someone who demonstrates a track record of achieving sales results and is proud of such accomplishments – is able to verify historical performance.
  • A successful history developing relationships with multiple customer points of contact.   Preference will be given to candidates who possess verifiable senior-level contacts in the retail, restaurant, or grocery industries.
  • A high preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the field of customer research (e.g., customer and employee satisfaction, client loyalty, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel 20-25%.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills - can rapidly connect with people - plus the ability to establish credibility among various external and internal constituencies, and a deep knowledge of the skills and practices necessary to inspire collaboration among diverse groups. 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills - superb stand-up and telephonic sales presentation abilities are required.
  • Should possess initiative and creativity in achieving sales results within a competitive and complex industry.
  • Must exude quality, professionalism, and respect for others and be able to operate as a service-oriented team player who is trustworthy and committed to excellence.
  • Ability to project and maintain a calm work atmosphere while concurrently operating in a deadline-intensive, customer-driven environment.
  • Entrepreneurial style is extremely important - someone who takes calculated risks, is nimble and quick, proactive, and who enjoys and appreciates a fast-paced environment.
  • Must display a solid business acumen (e.g., a “quick study” with an outside-the-box mentality) that relies on good judgment and sound analysis.
