Head of Data & Context Engineering | Global Life Insurer

This is a hands-on leadership role to build the company’s data and context engineering capability from scratch on a modern cloud and AI stack. You will build and lead an in-house team, run the data platform as a product, and build data governance into the platform itself. You will partner with senior leadership, the Technology department and Regional and Global Data & AI teams on data strategy and execution.

• Build and lead an in-house data and context engineering team: hiring, development and engineering standards
• Own the data platform as a product: self-service data, data catalog and fast access
• Build governance into the platform: access, lineage, data quality and policy enforced automatically
• Run DataOps: CI/CD, test automation and infrastructure as code
• With the AI team, build the context layer for AI agents: semantic layer, core metrics and metadata
• Engage senior leadership on data strategy and work with regional and global teams on architecture and standards

Required Skills

• 10+ years in data engineering or data platforms, including 5+ years leading engineering teams
• Experience building an in-house data engineering team and culture
• Experience running an enterprise cloud data platform (Azure, Databricks or equivalent)
• CI/CD, test automation and infrastructure as code applied to data
• Experience building governance into a platform (access, lineage, data quality, policy as code)
• Data architecture for AI (semantic, metadata and ontology layers)
• Business-level Japanese and English
