Position Description

We are seeking a Data Engineer to join IT Data Platform team in Tokyo, serving as critical link between the Japan business stakeholders and cross region IT teams.

The role focuses on the development and operation of various data pipelines to ensure that data supporting Japanese power trading business is appropriately delivered to business users, relevant tools and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Be responsible for early-morning EOD processes and for monitoring the stable operation of data pipelines, ensuring that company-managed pipelines run correctly and required data is successfully retrieved. Provide prompt hyper-care support in the event of issues.
• Monitor the health of data pipelines for Analytics on a daily basis, and in the event of an issue, promptly notify relevant stakeholders, perform triage, and take corrective actions.
• Based on requirements from the business (front, middle, and back office), define system requirements and design new data pipelines, Databases and its tables. Take end-to-end responsibility for development, testing, and production release.
• Take ownership of building and maintaining disaster recovery environments for the data platform, including not only databases but also virtual desktops, servers, and other tools supporting the platform.
• Execute migrations to new data platforms while minimizing impact on existing processes and ensuring a seamless transition.

Qualifications
Key Qualifications and Experience

[Required]

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role, preferably focusing on trading systems and workflows within an energy/commodity trading house, a financial institution, or through a specialized vendor/consultancy firm.
• Native-level fluency in Japanese and advanced business-level fluency in English is mandatory. TOEIC score of 720 or above, or equivalent proficiency.
• Proficiency in data-related tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Azure Data Factory [ADF], SQL Server Management Studio [SSMS]) and/or programming/query languages (e.g., Python, SQL, etc.)
• Experience in development and operations on a data platform, including the use of notebooks, data lakes, data warehouses, and job scheduling.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly grasp new issues and efficiently identify viable solutions

[Preferred]

• Experience in development using Azure DevOps, or equivalent version control tools.
• Experience with task and project management using backlogs tools (e.g., JIRA, Backlog, etc.).
• Experience with Databricks is preferred.
