Tech Lead Engineer (Voice/Speech)

Role & Expectations

As the Tech Lead Engineer for Voice/Speech, you will be the key technical decision-maker for our Speech product. You will be responsible for architectural decisions, hands-on development, technical strategy, and mentoring engineers.

1. Define the Technical Strategy and Architecture for the Voice Processing Platform

You will design the entire processing pipeline, from streaming audio ingestion through speech recognition, speaker diarization, and summarization.

You will be responsible for determining how to balance accuracy, latency, and inference cost, including:

• Technology selection
• Architecture design
• Scalability and reliability
• Cost optimization
• Technical debt reduction and prioritization
• Long-term technical strategy

2. Lead Product Design and Implementation

You will work closely with Product Managers to define and implement features such as:

• Cross-meeting analytics
• LLM-powered summarization and topic extraction
• Audio ingestion from Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and other platforms
• Integrations with business tools such as Salesforce and Slack

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will not only make architectural decisions but also design and implement key components yourself.

You will also incorporate enterprise requirements such as:

• ISMS / Privacy Mark compliance
• Data encryption
• Japan-region-only data processing
• Security and data governance

3. Provide Technical Leadership to the Team

You will help raise the overall engineering quality through:

• Architecture and design reviews
• Code reviews
• Technical mentoring
• Development process improvements
• Technical interviews and hiring

You will play an important role in building and growing the engineering team itself.

Team Structure

Our engineering organization consists of approximately 60 engineers, within a company of approximately 256 employees. Around 44% of our engineers are international professionals.

The Speech team currently consists of 5 members and works closely with:

• Product Managers
• AI Platform Team (GPU / Kubernetes infrastructure)
• Product Engineers

You will collaborate across these teams to build and scale the Speech platform.

Work Style

Hybrid work model: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• 3+ years of experience as a Technical Lead or Architect, including technology selection, architectural decision-making, and technical mentoring
• Experience designing and operating large-scale backend systems with a focus on high availability, scalability, and cost efficiency
• Professional experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure
• Professional experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Professional experience in at least one of the following:
  • Real-time / streaming processing technologies such as WebSocket, gRPC, Kafka, or Pub/Sub
  • Designing and operating machine learning inference infrastructure in production
• Experience working at a startup, scale-up, or similarly fast-paced environment
• Business-level Japanese or fluent English

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional or research experience in speech technology, including:
  • Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)
  • Speaker Diarization
  • Speech Signal Processing
• Experience operating or optimizing GPU inference infrastructure, including Triton, TorchServe, ONNX Runtime, batching, or quantization
• Experience developing products incorporating LLMs
• Experience designing and operating MLOps pipelines
• Experience designing and operating large-scale data platforms such as BigQuery or data lakes
• Experience designing and operating systems under security requirements such as ISMS or Privacy Mark
• Experience extending voice products beyond meetings, such as telephony or CTI integrations
• Experience launching a new product from 0 to 1
• Full-stack development experience with TypeScript / React
• Japanese-English bilingual proficiency
