Data Center Engineer / Data Center Operations Engineer

Working Hours

• Tokyo: Monday–Friday, 10:00–19:00
• Osaka: Monday–Friday, 09:00–18:00
• Approximately 3–5 times per month, after-hours or weekend work may be required.

Job Overview

Responsible for day-to-day data center operations, hardware support, asset and inventory management, cabling, vendor coordination, change management, and project support across Japan data center sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform physical hardware operations including restart, power cycling, shutdown, break/fix, replacement and upgrades
• Install, rack, move and configure servers and other data center equipment
• Perform cable patching, cable replacement, labeling and cable management
• Conduct daily data center inspections and identify/escalate abnormalities
• Manage hardware, rack, cable, IPDU, network/storage and asset inventories
• Manage equipment delivery, receiving, removal and disposal activities
• Support hardware retirement, EOL and disposal processes
• Manage data center access, escort customers/vendors and coordinate site visits
• Review and manage ServiceNow Change, Task, Request and Incident tickets
• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly operational reports
• Coordinate with colocation providers, vendors and internal IT teams
• Support data center projects including migration, upgrade, refresh and new equipment deployment
• Support structured cabling and rack deployment projects
• Coordinate vendor activities and ensure work is completed according to approved procedures
• Support internal and external audits, including PCI DSS and JISC
• Coordinate data center facility maintenance and preventive maintenance activities
• For JP2, support quarterly tape backup management, inventory, reporting and tape destruction
• Act as a key contact/escalation point for Japan data center operations and related vendors

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience in Data Center Operations / Infrastructure Support
• Hands-on experience with servers, network equipment, racks, cabling and hardware
• Experience with hardware installation, replacement, troubleshooting and asset management
• Experience working in a data center or similar IT infrastructure environment
• Basic knowledge of ITIL / Change Management processes
• Experience with ServiceNow or similar ticket management systems
• Good communication and coordination skills with internal teams and vendors
• Ability to work after hours/weekends when required
• Business-level Japanese communication skills

Preferred Skills

• Experience with colocation data centers such as Equinix
• Experience with Nlyte or other data center asset management tools
• Knowledge of structured cabling and rack design
• Experience supporting data center migration / refresh / EOL projects
• Experience with tape backup operations
• Experience supporting PCI DSS / JISC or other IT audits
• Vendor management experience
