Company Overview: Our client is a global medical‑technology manufacturer with significant manufacturing and sourcing footprint across Asia. They operate complex regional supply chains and require specialist trade, customs and supply‑chain policy expertise to safeguard manufacturing continuity and manage tariff and regulatory risk.

 

Role summary: Provide regional leadership and subject‑matter expertise on trade policy, tariffs, customs and supply‑chain resilience. Advise global and regional stakeholders on Asia Pacific developments (with emphasis on China and India), design mitigation strategies for tariff and customs risk, and strengthen external advocacy and internal preparedness across manufacturing, sourcing and logistics networks.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Advice: Advise senior global and regional leaders on trade policy, tariffs, customs, export controls and localization measures affecting APAC supply chains.

  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Lead assessment and mitigation of trade topics impacting factories and sourcing in China and India; develop contingency plans for tariff exposure and cross‑border disruption.

  • Cross‑functional Coordination: Translate policy changes into operational actions with manufacturing, procurement, logistics, legal and commercial teams.

  • External Engagement: Represent the company in industry associations and stakeholder forums to influence trade policy and promote predictable trade regimes.

  • Internal Communications & Readiness: Own regional communications on trade developments; develop playbooks, training and readiness plans to support business continuity.

  • Governance & Working Groups: Participate in cross‑functional governance groups focused on supply‑chain resilience and regulatory responsiveness.

  • Monitoring & Analysis: Track geopolitical and policy developments across APAC and provide timely analysis and recommendations to leadership.

Reporting & Team:

  • Regional leadership role reporting into Global/Regional Government Affairs or Supply‑Chain leadership.

  • Matrix engagement across regional and global functions; may coordinate small specialist teams or external advisors.

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience in international trade, customs, tariffs, government affairs or supply‑chain strategy with an APAC focus.

  • Deep knowledge of China and India trade frameworks, tariff structures, export controls and cross‑border supply‑chain risks.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing or regulated industry supply chains (medtech/healthcare advantageous).

  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders in a global matrix organization.

  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Mandarin language proficiency is mandatory (spoken and written). Due to regular collaboration and engagement with counterparts in China.

  • Fluent English required; additional Asian languages advantageous.

  • Willingness to travel across APAC.

Preferred Background:

  • Prior roles in government affairs, customs/tariff advisory, trade risk management, or supply‑chain resilience programs.

  • Experience engaging with industry associations, chambers and public policy stakeholders.

Performance Indicators:

  • Effectiveness of mitigation plans (reduced tariff/cost exposure, minimized disruption).

  • Timeliness and clarity of policy briefings and internal communications.

  • Successful advocacy outcomes and stakeholder engagement metrics.

  • Cross‑functional readiness: contingency plans, playbooks and training adoption.
