Environmental Monitoring and Data Technician

Responsibilities：

1. Participate in field surveys across Okinawa (terrestrial, coastal, and marine adjacent sites as needed), including setup, operation, and retrieval of monitoring equipment.
2. Manage research datasets from multiple sources (field logs, sensors, cameras, sound recorders, weather stations), including file organization, metadata, QC, and backups.
3. Conduct routine data processing and analysis, and produce clear summaries/figures for internal reporting and project decision making.
4. Work with acoustic and sound recording data (e.g., data handling, spectrogram review, annotation, and assisting with automated detection workflows where applicable).
5. Support development and improvement of analysis workflows (e.g., scripting, templates, SOPs) and learn new methods as project needs evolve.
6. Communicate regularly with the team and collaborators via email and Microsoft Teams.

職責：

1. 沖縄全域における現地調査（陸上、沿岸、必要に応じた海洋隣接地域）に参加し、監視機器の設置、操作、回収を含む業務を実施する。
2. 複数の情報源（現地記録、センサー、カメラ、録音機器、気象観測所）からの研究データセットを管理し、ファイル整理、メタデータ管理、品質管理（QC）、バックアップを含む業務を行う。
3. 日常的なデータ処理・分析を実施し、内部報告やプロジェクト意思決定のための明確な要約／図表を作成する。
4. 音響・録音データ（例：データ処理、スペクトログラム確認、注釈付与、自動検出ワークフローの補助）を扱う。
5. 分析ワークフローの開発・改善（例：スクリプト作成、テンプレート化、標準作業手順書（SOP）作成）を支援し、プロジェクトのニーズの変化に応じて新たな手法を習得する。
6. メールおよびMicrosoft Teamsを通じて、チームおよび協力者と定期的にコミュニケーションを取る。

Qualifications：

(Required)

1. Ability and willingness to participate in fieldwork across Okinawa, including physically demanding work outdoors in variable weather and terrain.
2. Demonstrated ability to manage and analyse research datasets, including file organization, metadata, and quality control.
3. Experience with basic data processing and statistical analysis (e.g., R or Python) and willingness to learn new analytical methods as project needs evolve.
4. Strong English communication skills and ability to coordinate work digitally
5. Comfortable working in a multicultural, multinational environment.
6. Provide operational support for broader MTS field and facility activities.

(Preferred)

1. Experience handling acoustic/sound recording datasets
2. Experience with GIS or spatial analyses
3. Experience deploying and maintaining field monitoring equipment
4. Experience with reproducible workflows and collaboration tools (e.g., Git, scripted pipelines)
5. Communication skills in Japanese
6. Japanese driver’s license

6. MTSの広範なフィールド活動および施設活動に対する運用支援を提供すること
