This mid-level Java Engineer role sits in the online payments development team, building high-performance, highly available systems for both consumers and merchants. You will work across multiple services, from checkout flows and merchant APIs to data platforms and onboarding tools, in a highly collaborative engineering environment.Client Details
Our client is a leading Japanese fintech company within a major internet group, providing one of the largest online payment platforms for e-commerce merchants across Japan. Their services support thousands of online stores nationwide, and the online payment business is a core pillar in the group's growth strategy.Description
As a mid-level engineer, you will join an experienced development team responsible for mission-critical online payment systems. Your main responsibilities will include:- Designing, developing and maintaining Java-based web applications for online payments
- Building and improving high-performance, highly available systems for:
- Consumer-facing payment flows
- Merchant-facing API services
- Merchant management and back-office systems
- Large-scale payment data aggregation systems
- New merchant onboarding and application systems
- Writing clean, maintainable code and contributing to code reviews and design discussions
- Working closely with product managers, QA and operations teams to deliver secure, stable, and scalable services
- Proactively identifying issues, proposing solutions, and driving continuous improvement in performance, efficiency and reliability
- Ensuring compliance with global security standards (e.g. PCI DSS) in collaboration with relevant stakeholders

スキル・資格
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and skills:
Must-have:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in Java web application development
- Practical experience in application development using SQL (1+ year)
- 2+ years of experience developing consumer-facing web applications
- Basic knowledge and experience with Linux/Unix environments
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trustful relationships within the team
- Ability to make sound judgments and constructive proposals based on the situation
- Proactive, self-driven mindset with a strong sense of ownership
- Intention and motivation to convert to a permanent employee in the mid to long term (not guaranteed but expected path)
- Language:
- Native or fluent Japanese
- Daily conversational level English (around TOEIC 600 or equivalent is preferred)
Nice-to-have:
- Experience operating Apache and Tomcat
- Experience with frameworks such as Struts and Spring
- Front-end skills using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for web UI development
- Experience with public cloud services, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Experience using Git, Jenkins, and Maven in a modern development workflow
- Knowledge of, or strong interest in, payment services and financial systems
