Our mission and approach:
Powering thriving, global communities with greater opportunity for all.
At S&P Global, we work to accelerate progress in the world by harnessing our essential intelligence to power thriving global communities, with greater opportunity for all. We give back to our communities and create value for society by focusing our Corporate Responsibility efforts in areas where we can have the most impact: Creating an Inclusive Economy, Bridging the Global Skills Gap, and Promoting a Sustainable Environment.

Our strong commitment to driving progress begins with our own operations. We fulfill our environmental, social and governance (ESG) responsibilities as a company by creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, reducing our environmental footprint and upholding the highest standards of corporate governance.

Bringing The Global Skills Gap:
Equip the global workforce with essential STEM and digital skills.
Competition is fierce in today’s job market—but millions of jobs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are going unfilled. To help close the STEM job gap, we assist underserved people, including women, minorities, immigrants and low-income youth, to gain the essential skills today’s economy demands. In addition, S&P Global employees continue to share their skills with the next generation by mentoring U.S. high school students from diverse backgrounds.

Promoting A Sustainable Envitonment:
Integrate ESG in the financial markets to promote sustainable investments and businesses.
Our comprehensive view of ESG throughout global markets provides companies, financial institutions and governments with financially relevant analytics and timely data to assess risk, uncover opportunities and inform long term sustainable growth. We decrease our own environmental footprint by operating with sustainability in mind.

Creating An Inclusive Economy:
Expand economic opportunities for the underserved and support advancement for women.
A thriving economy -- growing, sustainable and stable -- must also be an inclusive economy. Economies should function for all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, disability, or gender. At S&P Global, we believe an investment in women is an investment in us all.

Data itself is powerful, but when it’s coupled with analytics, powerful becomes empowering—especially to those looking to capitalize on market opportunities. Our robust analytics spotlight the data that is effective, efficient and essential for your workflow. Our data-driven insight puts our customers in the driver’s seat, enabling them to steer through complex global markets and make decisions with conviction. From our quality ratings to iconic indices, our price assessments to valuations, we use deep financial and sector-specific data to fuel and drive the intelligence and actionable insight that decision makers find so essential.

Research & Commentary:
Our analysts and research teams provide unique and complete perspectives on the sectors, events, and trends that shape the financial and commodity landscape. It’s our large global footprint, the breadth and depth of our coverage, and attention to detail that really set us apart. Our analysts and reporters are committed to delivering the highest quality research to help customers achieve their goals and provide the insight needed to take that next step.

In today’s world, benchmarks are critical to make and show progress. We were the first to establish core economic benchmarks across global credit, debt, equity and commodities markets. In the capital markets, our indices provide an important starting point for an investor to construct a portfolio and gauge the relative performance of that portfolio in order to determine the next steps. In the commodities markets, our price benchmarks—a price reference acceptable to both buyer and seller to use as a basis for contract settlements—support decision making, from the moment a raw material is taken out of the ground to the moment a customer gets a new business off the ground.

Credit Ratings:
We help market participants measure relative credit risk through our credit ratings, research and analytics. And we regularly assess our ratings methodologies to adjust to changes in world economies and markets. That’s why we’re recognized for our market leadership, transparency, and integrity. Ratings help foster the development and smooth functioning of capital markets; capital allows people to start and grow businesses, cities and states to build highways and hospitals, and manufacturers to build factories and create jobs. Ratings can express opinions on creditworthiness that may help investors make more informed investment decisions.

ESG Solutions:
Convictions matter. At S&P Global, our purpose is to harness the power of essential data and information so that our customers can make decisions with conviction. Providing essential data means that we go beyond the numbers on a balance sheet. To facilitate long term, sustainable growth, it is imperative to analyze the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance of companies and examine how their activities influence the world in which we live.
