Job Description

Oversees development and implementation of food safety strategy and program development by

  • developing and executing new, strategic initiatives to improve the effectiveness and sharpen the strategic direction of entire Ethics & Compliance team in collaboration with other stakeholders;
  • conducting analysis of new regulations in coordination with Legal and implementing plans to ensure compliance;
  • assisting the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer in driving advancements in program maturity as defined in the Global Compliance Management System;
  • developing timely and relevant communication tools and reports;
  • creating new metrics, trend reports, tracking and training tools for new Ethics & Compliance initiatives and integrating them into business metrics;
  • collaborating with stakeholders to enhance integral E&C programs including, but not limited to, improving communications and training effectiveness and strategy, strengthening the monitoring and response function, and centralizing the collection of licenses and permits;
  • collaborating with the Food Safety team and business leaders to develop specific strategies for how to improve cold chain compliance;
  • advising business leaders regarding how to achieve Anti-Corruption compliance, particularly in the areas of donations, real estate transactions, and store operations, using the least invasive methods possible;
  • developing initiatives to strengthen Ethics & Compliance in distribution centers and food processing centers;
  • working with Wakana stakeholders to create a single Ethics & Compliance program that applies equally to Seiyu and Wakana;
  • creating strategies to enhance the cross-functional cooperation among governance functions in the Japan market;
  • advising market leaders on key Ethics & Compliance decisions required to achieve business objectives;
  • evaluating initiative performance against the metrics and using the data to drive continuous improvement;
  • Develop strategies to upgrade and support our personnel, simplify Ethics & Compliance processes and procedures, and partner more effectively with business units in every subject matter;
  • collaborating with stakeholders to reduce regulatory findings at retail, distribution, and company-owned manufacturing facilities;
  • developing new risk management approaches for enhanced retail operations compliance;
  • understanding the long term compliance strategy and regulatory environment;
  • researching, assessing and advising on new and emerging issues;
  • providing advice to market leaders regarding Ethics & Compliance decisions required to achieve business objectives; and
  • advising and collaborating with strategic planning teams to develop strategies to manage identified opportunities.

Oversees market compliance with corporate standards for Ethics & Compliance by

  • partnering with Internal Audit to respond to audits related to Ethics & Compliance subject matter areas;
  • developing Ethics & Compliance processes, standards, and policies;
  • reviewing and interpreting Ethics & Compliance-related data generated by business and E&C sources to help anticipate future challenges, guide strategy, and set policy;
  • developing processes, standards and policies to ensure distribution centers, company owned manufacturing facilities, and stores operate in a safe and compliant manner;
  • developing metrics and reports to evaluate Ethics & Compliance performance;
  • communicating with internal and external stakeholders regarding Ethics & Compliance issues; 
  • managing and reviewing internal, regulatory, and third party facility audits to ensure consistency of treatment across subject matters;
  • advising internal and external stakeholders on matters of Ethics & Compliance tactics or strategy across all E&C subject matter areas;
  • consulting with stakeholders to meet company defined strategy and compliance goals;
  • providing direction and advice to business leaders on strategic Ethics & Compliance projects through analysis of business objectives and customer needs;
  • developing, communicating, building support for, and implementing business strategies, plans and practices; and
  • evaluating and influencing market leadership's compliance plans.
