Our Japan team engages in client projects relating to a wide range of industries like Auto, Technology, Food & Beverage, Healthcare, and more, closely working with the APAC network. We are seeking a Research Manager that possesses strong research and technical expertise and project management skills and demonstrates aptitude for strategic thinking and problem solving. The Research Manager is responsible for the project management and delivery of ongoing monitoring assignments, media analysis (both traditional and social) and secondary research from proposal writing through final study.

The Role of Research Manager

  • Manage research projects from end to end with proactive communication with clients
  • Manage/use social listening tools, conduct desk research, scope third-party data specifications
  • Serve as DXI craft expert for one or more accounts, under the supervision of a squad lead
  • Ensure the best utilization of available time with a focus on helping proposal development and leading project management, including client relationship, team, timeline, quality and third parties.
  • Coordinate the production and manage all administrative aspects to ensure smooth and efficient collaboration
  • Excel at project management (delivering projects on quality, on time, on budget, third-party management, administrative aspects, team coordination, case study development)
  • Superior communication skills to own and lead client presentations in a clear and appealing manner
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of client objectives and apply/recommend appropriate methodologies to meet these objectives
  • Responsible for interpreting research data and insights while working closely with analysts to create a compelling story
  • Collaborate with analysts to ensure that client objectives are being met throughout the course of the project
  • Independently manage small to medium sized research projects with senior oversight and guidance
  • Oversee client budget with a focus on spend, timeline and staffing plan and proactively flag potential issues as they arise
  • Support new business efforts by working closely with senior leadership to identify opportunities that expand on client engagements, writing proposals and developing cases studies

Required Skills

The ideal profile

  • 3+ years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research
  • Experienced user of one or several tools in the following list: Talkwalker, Brandwatch, Crimson Hexagon, Quid, Netbase, Digimind, Synthesio, Sprinklr, Linkfluence, Meltwater
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – preferably with an eye toward presentation design
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize/manage multiple deadlines within a project scope and budget
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a great sense of ownership and enjoy taking initiatives, innovating and challenging the status quo.
  • An outgoing, ‘can do’ attitude and a ‘team player’ who is willing to help colleagues whenever necessary.
  • Rigorous and structured thinking that translates in flawless reports with good balance between overarching story and detailed findings.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to down a complex project to key visual PowerPoint slides that tell the story and provide recommendations.
  • High level of organization and time management skills, with the ability to rationalize and prioritize activities and requests.
  • Fluent in Japanese and advanced level of English

You enjoy and have demonstrated experience in:  

  • Balancing an ever-changing and diverse range of insights projects, including global and complex projects involving media/social analysis but also quantitative and/or qualitative research primary research
  • Being intellectually curious and using your consultative mindset to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Proactive and comfortable diving right in; collaborative personality that is adept at relationship building with clients and colleagues.
  • Keen understanding of business and marketing, and values measurement
