【Tokyo】 Software Engineer – Back End developer

Job Description:

We are looking for a Back-End Developer who is specialized in server-side components. Primarily in this role, you would be working in Java and will bring a depth of knowledge on basic algorithms and data structures. As a Back-End Software Engineer, you will be architecting new features, refactoring existing code to be more scalable, and seeing changes through to completion.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop robust and scalable software in Java.
  • Design and create services and system architecture.
  • Build reusable code and libraries to support the application and for future use.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders in understanding the requirements, use cases and translating them into effective technical solution.
  • Deliver high quality software on schedule.
  • Develop to transform on-premises application to cloud (Azure, AWS, etc.)

Work Location:

Tokyo (Gotanda)

Work Hours:

This position requires the hire to be available during core business hours, with some additional outside hours to coordinate with other global teams.

General Requirements

Minimum Experience Level Over 3 years

Minimum English Level Business Level (Amount Used: English usage about 75%)
Minimum Japanese Level Native
Minimum Education Level Technical/Vocational College
Visa Status Permission to work in Japan required

Required Skills

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in large-scale (distributed) system architecture, complex software design, high scalability and availability, optimization, etc.
  • Experience working with Server-side components in Java.
  • Strong analytical problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong knowledge of algorithms.
  • Strong Japanese language skills and text processing knowledge in software technology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with open-source distributed messaging framework such as Apache Kafka
  • Experience and understanding Search engine such as Lucene, Elastic Search, Apache Solr is a big plus.
  • Experience building REST based API, microservices architecture, Docker and Kubernetes is a big plus.
  • Experience with BigData technologies (Hadoop, Apache Spark) is a plus.
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a big plus.
  • Solid understanding and working knowledge of Unix/Windows operating systems, networking, and scaling techniques.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • General experience dealing with developers and Japanese customers who have been involved in Japanese text processing.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as GIT
  • Cloud native applications (Azure, AWS,etc.)
  • Experience in converting in-house products to the cloud (cloud conversion) is a plus.

Employment Type: Regular full time
Probation Period: 3 months
Incentive/Bonus: company's performance-based bonus (according to performance evaluation system and company business result)
Salary Raise: Annual according to performance evaluation system and company business result
Working/Break Time: 9:00 ~ 18:00 (1h break)
Holidays: Sat, Sun, National holidays, Year-end through New Year holidays / Total number of annual holidays: more than 120 days
Paid Time Off: Start with 10 days (Effective after probation period, subject to our work rules)
Commutation Allowance: Fully paid, with a cap of JPY20,000

Physical Requirements:

This position will be performed in an office setting at Shinagawa-ku in Tokyo and remote as required by local regulations.
