Job Description

【Job Purpose】
The Business Architects (BA) work as a “hinge” between Business and IT and between strategy and execution. They support business evolution through innovation, transformation and operational excellence. Business Architecture is being one of the key strategic initiatives to become a Tech-Lead company.

The Business Architecture's purpose is to:
・Disambiguate customers' needs and Business responses, identify key business capability gaps and represent the business visually.
・Frame the business focus, shaping what needs to be done and providing plans that show dependencies and overlaps.
・Provide hands-on architecture and solution guidance to Tribe and Squad architects ( =solution architects) embedded in the tribe(s) to target IT architecture roadmap and standards with the Collaboration of the Enterprise Architects.
・Align the business transformation across tribe(s) with AXA Life Japan business
・Optimise transversal consistency and convergence by simplification of the IT landscape and by eliminating duplication, redundancy and poor choices
・Drive informed investment decisions to maximize the value from the AXA Life Japan information technology and reduce the time and cost of transformation

【Key Accountabilities & Specific Activities】
◆Strategy Activities:
・Support the definition of business and IT strategies, ensuring that these are formalized and aligned with customer needs.
・Apply a strategic, architectural approach to influence business goals
・Develop and maintain an architectural view of operating models that align organizational design, key processes, business capabilities, data & information and technology with strategic intent.
・Design, deliver and maintain a capability based model of the AXA global business lines that is used as a reference model for assessing impacts of change across the business, identifying and communicating capability strengths and weaknesses as critical inputs to strategic and business planning efforts.
・Establish a Business Architecture capability for AXA Life Japan, maintain the capability and ensure it delivers business value through its use for strategic and business planning and optimization of the change portfolio.
・Participate in defining IT strategy in the alignment with business strategy and IT Roadmap
・Assist with the selection of vendor products and technologies relevant to application design giving considerations to how those solutions will be used within the broader systems landscape and skill sets required

◆Portfolio Alignment:
・Assist in formalizing and aligning business and IT strategies.
・Define common shared capabilities and map strategies against these to identify their impact.
・Propose possible investment roadmaps based on this impact (incl. sizing, sequence and dependencies).
・Work with the Strategic Projects team and entities to define a Strategic Investment Portfolio that aligns with strategic goals and the delivery of common capabilities.
・Facilitate the creation of delivery plans that reflect the needs of the target architecture, business and delivery dependencies. Assist the SPC process to ensure that BA alignment for Strategic initiatives is in place
・Challenge projects to eliminate gaps, inconsistencies and duplication.
Initiative Alignment
・Be actors of change during business transformation initiatives helping them to remain aligned with the Business Architecture.
・Strive for business simplification by standardising and automating process and product portfolios where possible.
・Help initiatives to define all dimensions of their transformation at Gate 1 (e.g. organization, processes and technology).
・Build and maintain the BA deliverables required to support initiative alignment.

◆Practice Support:
・Design, establish and maintain working practices, models, standards and governance for the business architecture capability within AXA Life Japan, building on best practice input gained both within and outside of AXA.
・Contribute to the definition and diffusion of BA best practice as defined by the BA Community (BAWG).
・Assist in the establishing an effective Business Architecture practice in Group

◆Tribe Architecture:
・Engage with tribe teams to support applying the Business Architecture standards and frameworks
・Tribe Architecture design reviews end-to-end across solutions to ensure compliance with the blueprints, standards, and techniques

◆Lead in Architecture governance processes:
・Review initial project concepts to identify opportunities to apply business architecture design guidelines and frameworks for more business value and simplicity
・Provide architectural consulting to programs, projects and initiatives and help deliver requisite program documentation including program charters, schedules, requirements documents, specifications, design documents and testing strategies.
・Working with Global Information Risk Management and Security teams, ensure that risks are appropriately identified, prioritized and mitigated to levels acceptable to management

Required Skills

・Certification in an architecture framework (Certified TOGAF 9 & Certified System Architect) with 15 plus years of qualification experience
・Design front-to-end architecture solutions using leading edge technology to reform and advance AXA Life Japan’s local target IT architecture
・Propose and deliver most suitable architectural solution to IT that contribute to generate extra output and results and support the company and AXA Group strategic goals
・Business knowledge of the insurance (Products, value chains, issues, new trends) and knowledge on technology. Enterprise architecture design, principles, and artifact & deliverables
・Fluent bilingual skills in English and Japanese (High business level)
