About us

Tablecross Inc. is a Japanese CSV (Creating Shared Value) company founded in 2014 by Kaoru Joho. It began as a restaurant reservation service, operating a one-to-one style donation system, meaning that for each person who dines through the service, one school lunch meal is donated to a child in need. So far, Tablecross has donated over 220,000 school lunches and aims to donate 5 million more in the next 5 years.

 

Since merging with byFood, a food platform targeting inbound tourism to Japan, Tablecross is setting even higher goals, aiming to reach a global market. Now, Tablecross is expanding to a business specializing in food experiences. Tablecross provides two services: a restaurant reservation mobile app for the Japanese market, and the byFood website for inbound tourism to Japan.

Tablecross Application

The Tablecross mobile application is a restaurant reservation service marketed towards Japanese users. The app enables social contribution, feeding children in developing countries while feeding our users. Tablecross partners with restaurants all across Japan, and rather than charging a monthly or yearly subscription fee, the restaurants are charged on a per-customer basis. For users, making reservations through the Tablecross application is free.

byFood Website

Launched in January 2018 by Serkan Toso, byFood began as “Tokyo by Food,” a food platform providing experiences like food tours and cooking classes to foreign visitors in Tokyo. For each person who participates in an event through the platform, 10 school lunch meals are donated to children in Cambodia. Due to this social contribution, Tokyo by Food was recognized as one of the top social initiatives from around the world by One Young World in April 2018.

 

Since merging with Tablecross, byFood’s next goal is to expand across Japan. By combining hands-on food experiences with comprehensive articles and videos, byFood hopes to encourage adventurous eating and savvy traveling. Additionally, each month byFood will partner with a different charitable project, setting a target goal for donations and publicizing the cause on the website. A portion of each booking will go towards the featured charity. When the target goal is reached or the clock runs out, the donation counter for the next project begins.
