“Diamond In The Rough” 「ダイヤの原石」
まだ新人だけれども、ポテンシャルが見込める人を指すイディオムです。
日本でも「ダイヤの原石」という表現はよく使われると思います。
ラフなままのダイヤモンド=ダイヤの原石だと容易に推測できますね。
