Our client is the world’s #1 retailer, with more than 7,250 stores, including about 975 discount stores, 2,800 combination discount and grocery stores and 590 warehouse stores throughout the World. Based out of the U.S., they have operations in Asia, Europe, and South America.

They are rapidly expanding their operations in Japan and are currently looking for a VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development

This position reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for;
- Directing all phases of strategic planning and program management role for the implementation of key strategic initiatives. This will include five year business plan development, annual business plan development, and any other strategic initiatives the company may develop to meet its strategic business objectives.
- Directing merger and acquisition activity including research, strategy development, deal sourcing, target relationship building, service provider management, negotiation, valuation, structuring, due diligence, presentation to senior management and transitioning to integration function.

Qualified candidates will possess;
- Minimum of 10 years total experience in the business, 5 of which should be either in strategic planning function in a business, P&L management responsibility, or business consulting role.
- Education: MBA in Finance, Accounting or Economics, or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent experience.
- Excellent practical knowledge of Program Management as well as financial/business modeling and valuation.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects at the same time and to operate under tight deadlines
- Expert negotiator demonstrated through superior results in successive projects/deals
- Ability to quickly grasp complex deal and/or business issues and explain them in simple terms
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience and persistence in approach to developing relationships
- Outstanding presentation skills with proven executive maturity/presence with senior executives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Very high level of capability in all Leadership/Management Competencies
- Japanese and English language proficiency required.
- Willingness to travel extensively on short notice
