Job Description

Position: Academic Advisor

Department: Academic Advising Center, Undergraduate Program

Position Type: Full-time staff

Operating hour: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday

Salary/Benefits: Commensurate with experience.
Eleven days paid vacation in the first year increasing to 20 days after 6 years of employment, plus 5 paid “personal days” each year. Japanese social insurance and pension, commuting allowance, and tuition benefits for TUJ programs.

Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is the Tokyo Campus of Temple University in Philadelphia. The undergraduate program at TUJ provides higher education for approximately 800 undergraduate students to pursue a degree in one of the Colleges of Art, Business, Communications, or Liberal Arts. All teaching and management functions are conducted entirely in English.

Job Description
- Provide academic advising for all undergraduate students, with particular responsibility for those studying for the Bachelor of Business Administration.
- Provide academic advising at all levels from choice of major through to graduation review, as well as to freshman and transfer students.
- Organize and conduct the new student orientation and advising.
- Serve as a liaison between the Academic Advising Center and the Business program, including providing the Business program
- Organize advising events to assist the students to develop their knowledge of the majors offered, the curriculum, policy and regulations, and their independence to pursue their academic career.

Required Skills

Qualifications
- Bachelor degree.
- A minimum of two years of experience of working in higher education at US institution providing student services/or academic advising.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and writing). The successful candidate will be expected work with a diverse student population in a multi-ethnic/multicultural environment.
- The ability to use the Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to create and edit advising materials.
- Detail-oriented, student-centered, independent, collaborate and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred qualifications
- A Master’s degree in a related field, living experience in Japan/knowledge of Japanese.
- Academic advising and/or educational background in Business Studies.
