Japanese Language Service Editorial - News bureau 1. Managing staff. Responsibility for hiring, organization, training and performance management of Japanese Language Services staff of around 20. 2. Editing. Oversee the JLS copy flow to ensure it is relevant, timely and accurate, and meets standards. Duties will include: a) Using news judgement to assess news priorities, and providing direction and advice to staff. b) Assigning stories and editing work to staff. c) Editing copy. 3. News Judgement. Through the use of various media maintain a good understanding and keep abreast of developments in regional and global markets. Maintain a strong understanding of political, business and economic news to make sound decisions when faced with questions of news worth and prioritization, and to help develop story ideas. 4. Coordination with Sales. Work with the sales director to ensure the JLS output meets customer needs and responds to requests from sales. Decisions on newsworthiness, prioritization, market moves and their relevance. Performance management of staff. Every effort should be made to ensure that copy is accurate, competitive and in accordance with in-house style, coding and other guidelines.
