Our client is the world’s #1 retailer, with more than 7,250 stores, including about 975 discount stores, 2,800 combination discount and grocery stores and 590 warehouse stores throughout the World. Based out of the U.S., they have operations in Asia, Europe, and South America.

They are rapidly expanding their operations in Japan and are currently looking for a Senior Import Development Manager - General Merchandise.

This position is responsible for developing and driving our client’s import business by increasing GP import market share and is the primary communication channel between GP and the Retail Market through contacts with buyers and DMM’s looking for new business opportunities.

Responsibilities;
- Work with Buyers and DMMs, attend merchandise Meetings, Line Reviews, local Buy Trips, Store visits with buyers.
- Discover or create new import business opportunities.
- Evaluate merchandise to determine the suitability for the markets.
- Responsible for helping negotiate favorable pricing and terms on behalf of the buyer.
- Train and support buyers on creating pre-trip buy plans.
- Understand and communicate the sourcing needs to the merchandisers in the field.
- Buy Trip communication is submitted to the Sourcing Team.
- Help conduct Pre-Trip Planning meetings in conjunction with Buyers, Imports and Logistics.
- Ability to impact Critical Performance Metrics - On time Shipping.
- Educate Buyers/GP on the importance of following the Critical path and the impact of on-time delivery.
- Weekly Comp Shopping to evaluate market opportunity.

Requirements;
- Fluent in Japanese & English
- Extensive knowledge of import processes/procedures
- Extremely familiar with Japan core import/export
- Great communicator, personable
- Extremely strong interpersonal and influence skills, consensus building skills
- Good facilitation and project management skills
- Customer Service focused
- Computer Skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
