This person is responsible to
a. lead a team of two lawyers (both are based in Tokyo);
b. provide legal support for all Sun’s businesses in Japan;
c. provide strong business partnering; and
d. help business achieve its objectives in a legal and ethical manner.

The role supports all parts of Sun’s business in Japan- systems, storage, software, and service sales, delivery of support/professional/education services plus all the functions. SMI’s business in Japan is approx US$750 million and is projected to grow at faster than the Corporate average. There are just under 1000 headcount in Japan.

KEY DUTIES:
1. People Manager and GEM Lead of Japan legal team.
2. Trusted legal, governance and business counsel to Japan management team in a highly competitive market and complex operating environment.
3. Facilitates implementation of Corporate policies in Japan.
4. Provides training on a range of topics and helps to resolve business conduct cases as and when they arise with appropriate liaison with corporate SMI functions.

1. At least 10 years in-house legal experience.
2. Spoken and written Japanese required.
3. Must be an effective business partner.
4. Legal skills must be broad based and include ,in addition to
transactions, corporate structuring, product compliance.
5. Ability to address challenging and complex issues with pro-business,
fiduciary and practical solutions especially in the context of Japan
complex business model.
6. Familiarity with US regulatory environment including revenue
recognition and SOX will be desirable.
7. Good word processing skills.
8. Good knowledge and understanding of Japanese laws.

3. Credible legal track record and recognised as a trusted governance
advisor.
4. Able to build up good rapport with relevant parties especially
team-mates.
5. Able to spot issues and provide sound advice (both legal and
fiduciary) so that the business objectives are achieved under reasonable
levels of risk without breach of fiduciary duties.
