Job Description Overview
This role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and security of Japan’s servers, storage area systems, and applications.
The Systems Engineer will install, monitor, maintain, optimize and troubleshoot all server hardware, operating system, management software and provide application installation and operations. This individual will also analyze and resolve server hardware, operating system software and application problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required. As part of a global team, the individual will design, deploy and operate the server, storage, and application infrastructure according to global standards as well as participate in standards development. Some support of Asia-wide systems in Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong may also be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and deploy servers, storage area networks, and other data components in support of key business initiatives. This work may include racking and cabling as necessary.
- Configure servers, storage subsystems, operating systems, and applications to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Integrate the Japan systems into global support and management systems, following global standards.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
- Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term capacity needs.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to device configuration, device mapping, processes, and service records.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for system administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Conduct research on products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the industry, collaborating with and consulting global peers.
- Practice asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Monitor and test system and storage performance and provide system and storage performance statistics and reports.
- Write scripts to automate repetitive tasks.
- Oversee new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Participate in managing all system security solutions.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure appropriate products and services, leveraging global vendors.

スキル・資格

REQUIREMENTS
- Server Operations Engineer: 4 to 8 years of relevant work experience
- University degree in computer science or electrical engineering. Certifications such as MSCE and VPC are desired.
- Bi-lingual Japanese and English.
- Proven experience and success with server and storage design to support high-volume transactional applications.
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a global organization.

- Technical expertise in:
o Windows server (2000 and 2003)
o Windows infrastructure (Active Directory and domain services)
o VMWare and Virtual Center (highly desired)
o Storage area networks such as EMC’s CX series and Cisco or Brocade SAN switches
o Backup solutions
o System monitoring solutions
o Storage replication systems such as Mirrorview, Recoverpoint or others suitable for long distance disaster recovery.
o Transport and naming protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
o High Availability design using Veritas clustering or similar solutions
o Administration and troubleshooting of application components such as IIS, .Net framework, database connectivity, and similar systems
o Server VLAN design
o Programming and scripting languages such as PERL
o Knowledge of process frameworks such as MSF and ITIL
- Proven experience with server and storage capacity planning, security principles, and general system management best practices.
- Excellent troubleshooting experience.
- Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills a must because there will be significant interaction with business partners, executives, end users, global technology staff, and vendors.
- Able to conduct research into system issues and products as required.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly and business-focused language.
- Highly self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
